When a storm is brewing, scam artists up their game.
When things like Hurricane Matthew come around, the scam artists kick into high gear. There are already reports of fake FEMA emails going out to ‘make sure you are properly registered for disaster relief’. You may already be wary with unfamiliar work emails or a filter catches them for you, but just a reminder to be extra careful with your home emails as well. You should always look at any email you weren’t expecting with an extra skeptical eye and remember not to click on any link in an email. If you think it might be legitimate, always open your browser and type the address in yourself.
Remember: In this day and age, there are lots of ways to be a victim of a storm without seeing a drop of rain.
